Mixed Media Madness ~ Altered Vintage Book
Cheryl Mezzetti
Friday, February 8th
6:00 pm – 10:00 pm
$45.00

Recycling old books and using them as art journals is quickly becoming all the rage! Join Cheryl on Friday evening and transform a discarded book {old, recycled} into a creative work of art! Learn how to use a variety of mixed media products, paint mediums {modeling cream, matte medium, gesso} stamps, stencils, masks, all forms of Luminarte paints, new Viva Colour products, and gelatos, to name just a few. We will be adding pockets, vintage trims, recycled products, three-dimensional objects, and one of a kind ephemera! Your book can encompass a particular theme such as travel, wedding, heritage, or use it as your art journal. Creating altered books is something anyone can do because there are no rules – your only limitation is your own imagination!

- Supply List: {most of the items you should have on hand already}
- You will need a book to alter ~ I suggest an older book that has some character but a stable spine. It is best to get a hard backed book in good condition. You can even use a picture book and work around the pictures, incorporating them into your work. Please make sure that the book has matte pages as we will be painting and altering the books. The pages should not be shiny.
- My local library usually sells old books really cheap – try calling yours and asking about the sale of used books. Goodwill, thrift shops and yard sales are also a great way to find old books.
- Medium-sized book: Please have a book approximately 5 x 7″ {slightly smaller or larger is fine} and approximately 1.25″ in thickness {usually about 375 pages, depending on the thickness of the paper}. Please do not bring a book that has 1,000 of pages as we will be removing papers to make room for altering.
- Found objects: Bring whatever little trickets you have laying around – I often use old broken jewelery, keys, buttons, washers, watch interiors, etc.. {I will also be bringing lots of fun stuff with me}
- Non Stick Craft Sheet
- Self healing mat
- Tweezers
- Heat Tool
- X-acto knife with extra blades
- A couple of your favorite stamps {we will be sharing our stamps}
- Water bucket or paper cup {to clean brushes}
- Luminarte H20′s that you own {there will be some for the class to share}
- Metal ruler with non slip back
- Palette Knife/Craft Scrapper

- Paper Towels
- Baby wipes
- 3/4″ Flat brush {not foam}
